One Face of Dystonia
July 2008 I got the baclofen pump incerted into my abdomen and spine. Though baclofen is not for pain it is good for scrambling the signals my brain was sending to twitch, kick, wiggle, and well- all the uncontrolable muscle spasms. The attacks (storms) were getting so long and so frequent all I wanted was the pain to stop. Though DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) was a treatment option I wanted to try this first in hopes of the theory if it made my muscles relax hopefully I would - over time with the right dose- have less attacks and slowly as a result less pain. Sometimes I still have pain on the highest level but before the pump it was every moment- now maybe a few days out of the week or an hour or so of a day. NOT 24/7!!! I am glad I did it. Though I am weaker and have lost alot of strength and tire easily I prefer not hurting so bad I can't function. The battery lasts 5-7 years and when that day comes I will see if my dystonia goes back to where it was pre-pump, or if it has gotten better, worse, or stopped. Then I will have to decide then what to do. But until then I take the good moments and cherish them.
Pictures I found about the Baclofen Pump also called ITB Therapy
